Plusieurs juristes ont participé à la rédaction de cet ouvrage collectif. Commentaire au Protocole I relatif aux conflits armés internationaux : Claude Pilloud, Jean de Preux, Bruno Zimmermann, ainsi que Philippe Eberlin, Hans-Peter Gasser, Claude Wenger. Commentaires de l'Annexe I (Règlement sur l'identification) : P. Eberlin. Commentaire du Protocole II relatif aux conflits armés non internationaux : Sylvie Junod. Jean Pictet a également participé à cette rédaction. Ces commentaires explicitent les Protocoles sur la base de leur texte, des travaux préparatoires, ainsi qu'au vu du droit international humanitaire, du droit international général et de la doctrine de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge. Les commentaires représentent un instrument de travail très utile pour toute personne directement concernée par l'application de ces deux traités de droit international humanitaire.
