Abstract:
This study examines the effects of armed conflict on the lives of women. It focuses on women's needs for physical security, access to medical care, food and shelter, among other things, in situations of armed conflict, and addresses all aspects of the problems women face in wartime and the ways in which they cope with them. An in-depth analysis of international humanitarian law and, to a lesser extent, human rights and refugee law, is provided to assess the protection afforded to women by these branches of law. The study also provides an overview of ICRC operations in the field to address the needs of women victims of armed conflict.
