This book examines a decade of Israeli military occupation. It focuses on the legal and political aspects of Israeli administration and the international attempt to resolve the dispute over the ultimate control of the territories occupied. The author synthesizes and applies primary and technical data, draws upon original source material, including interviews with Israeli administrators, the West Bank political elite and senior Jordanian officials, and brings to bear his knowledge of international law, the Israeli legal system and the diplomatic history of the region to interpret the genesis of the controversy, assess the present situation and offers guidelines for future action. This book provides the first comprehensive analysis within the framework of law, history and contemporary politics of a subject of predominant international concern.
