Abstract:
Sexual violence in armed conflicts and other situations of violence has long been widespread, with grave and devastating consequences for victims and their communities. The Special Appeal begins by detailing the ICRC’s goals for 2013–16, the main objectives and expected results; following which, it presents the content unique to the 2015 Special Appeal: (i) the ICRC headquarters plans of action and activities foreseen for 2015 that are directly related to sexual violence and (ii) seven operational cases to serve as examples of the ICRC’s work in the field to strengthen its response to sexual violence. The last section presents their budgets. These sections are based on the ICRC Headquarters Appeal and the Emergency Appeals 2015, published in November 2014. This Special Appeal aims to draw contributions, particularly from funding sources that usually do not or have not financed the ICRC on the basis of its yearly Headquarters and Emergency Appeals.
