The ICRC considers the particular vulnerabilities and capabilities of persons with physical disabilities in the design and implementation of its activities. It also undertakes initiatives that aim to specifically address their needs. Through its Physical Rehabilitation Progreamme, the ICRC continued in 2018 to assist all persons with physical disabilities, including victims of clashes, cluster munitions, mines and ERW. In particular, it helped reduce the barriers to obtaining appropriate care by helping develop national capacities and by directly providing people with physical rehabilitation services. In 2018, around 475,000 people with physical disabilities benefitted from 189 projects, such as physical rehabilitation centres, component factories and training institutions, supported by the ICRC.
