Abstract:

Current numbers demonstrate the severity of displacement as a result of non-international and international armed conflicts. The importance of the prohibition of arbitrary displacement, in particular regulations on deportation, in the framework of international humanitarian law and equally its limitations are discussed in the first part of this article. The second part puts in focus the practical implementation of humanitarian assistance, primarily delivered by the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, based on its humanitarian law-mandate and exemplifies humanitarian initiatives of the Movement in support of people displaced by the Syrian conflict.
