Women and private military and security companies : one more piece for the puzzle
Gender violence in armed conflicts
Lisboa : Instituto da Defesa Nacional, 2013
The first part introduces the phenomenon of Private Military and Security Companies (PMSC), to clearly understand what we are talking about when we pronounce the acronym PMSC. The second part addresses two main questions: the relationship that has been observed between PMSC employees and civilian women, on one hand; and between PMSC and women as their workers, on the other. The third part sums up the regulation attempts and clarify the role that gender has played on them. As conclusion, this chapter defends that the time has come to take into consideration the gender perspective and even further, to take gender seriously when we talk about armed conflicts, in general, and PMSC in particular.
