Abstract:
This leaflet briefly describes the most important aspects of the work done by the ICRC to assist and protect persons deprived of their freedom during situations of violence, including armed conflict, and in other circumstances. It draws particular attention to the plight of these persons, who are often forced to endure ill-treatment and living conditions that are far from acceptable. It also outlines the ICRC's approach to preserving their lives and dignity and the programmes it develops to this end.
