Abstract:

The book is concerned with the rules of international law that govern the conduct of war between nation-states. It especially deals with fundamental questions relating to when is a state of war said to exist, when use of force is allowed, weapon use and conduct of wars, and treatment of prisoners, non-combatants and neutrals during war. Beginning with rules of warfare in Kautilya’s Arthashastra and practice of diplomacy in ancient India, it discusses the politics of World War II, strategy and war tactics of the Sikhs, terror attacks and the war on terror, and insurgency and the conflict in Kashmir.
