Abstract:
As a matter of normative objective, both branches of the law share an interest in the protection of individuals; in the case of human rights law this accounts for the entirety of its object and purpose, whereas in the case of IHL it extends to part of its abject, albeit a fundamental one. The practice of states, the case-law of international tribunals and the writings of publicists support a convergence and complementarity in the application of human rights law and IHL.
